Farmers of the Dashoguz velayat started sowing cotton on March 29. In accordance with the schedule approved by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers held on March 17, taking into account the soil and climatic conditions, the sowing campaign in the northern region started a little later than in other velayats of the country, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reports today.
The center of celebrations on the occasion of the start of sowing was the daikhan association named after Biruni of the Shavat etrap, where an exhibition of agricultural machinery and products of the agro-industrial complex of the northern region of the country was launched.
According to a good tradition, the beginning of work was blessed by the venerable elders. They threw the first cotton seeds into the ground, and then gave way to machine operators.
In the northern region, farmers mainly grow such medium-fiber varieties of “white gold”.
In Dashoguz velayat, there is an extensive fleet of modern specialized equipment, including high-performance tractors purchased from world leaders in agricultural engineering, to prepare land for sowing and care for cotton. The uninterrupted holding of the spring campaign will be ensured by seeders and other agricultural equipment.
In addition, brigades have been created, in the arsenal of which are mobile workshops, welding machines and vehicles for transporting fuel.
Earlier, on March 24, the cotton growers of Akhal, Balkan, Lebap and Mary velayats were the first to start sowing .
Cotton growing is one of the leading sectors of the domestic agro-industrial complex, providing a significant contribution to the implementation of state programs in the field of import substitution and increasing the country’s export potential.
According to the Decree of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, in 2023 it is planned to harvest 1 million 250 thousand tons of cotton in Turkmenistan. For the second year in a row , 580,000 hectares have been allocated for cotton , which is 40,000 hectares less than in previous years. The vacated areas were allotted for potatoes and other vegetable and gourd crops.
