The Indian Dota 2 team will take part at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, the People’s Republic of China, beginning on September 29.
All the esports events at the 2023 Asian Games will be held at the China Hangzhou Esports Centre.
Esports featured at Jakarta 2018 as a demonstration sport. In Hangzhou, esports will be making its debut as a medal event. It will now be contested across seven events; Arena of Valor Asian Games Version, Dota 2, Dream Three Kingdoms 2, FC Online, League of Legends, Peace Elite Asian Games Version (also known as PUBG Mobile) and Street Fighter V: Champion Edition.
India, however, will be participating in only four events at Hangzhou 2023: Dota 2, FC Online, League of Legends and Street Fighter V: Champion Edition.
Dota 2 is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) video game that is played between two teams of five players each. The ultimate goal of a team is to destroy the main base of the opposite team.
Asian Games 2023 Dota 2: India’s squad
Indian Dota 2 team: Darshan Bata aka A35 (captain), Krish Gupta aka Krish, Abhishek Yadav aka Abhi, Shubham Goli aka Madness and Ketan Goyal aka Evil-Ash.
Darshan Bata, the 28-year-old esports player from Mumbai, is the captain of India’s Dota 2 team at the Asian Games 2023.
A total of 14 countries will compete in the Dota 2 event at the Asian Games 2023. China, Kazakhstan, Nepal, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia will start directly from the quarter-finals while the remaining nine teams have been drawn into three groups for the preliminary group stage.
After single-legged round-robin matches, the three group winners will join the remaining five in the quarters.
India’s Dota 2 team came second behind Nepal in the seeding event for South Asian countries and will start its Asian Games 2023 campaign from the group stage.
